Hello! I’m Jessica Power and I am excited to serve as an Assistant Principal at Walden Middle School!
I attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where I obtained my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a Specialization in Science K-8 in May 2012. After graduation, I taught middle school science in Des Moines Public Schools at Harding Middle School from 2012-2017. While serving in Des Moines Public Schools, I held many roles on the building Leadership Team, Restorative Practices Team, and district level roles as a Demonstration Teacher, Curriculum Lead, and Curriculum Assessment Development. In the Spring of 2017, I obtained my master's degree in education leadership with Principal licensure. When I moved to Kansas City, I taught 8th grade science in Kansas City Public Schools at Northeast Middle School as well as serving as Science Department Chair and on the Building Leadership Team. In 2018, I transitioned into the role of Science Curriculum Coordinator (2018-2022) with the district and Summer School Coordinator (2020-2022). In the fall of 2021, I began working towards my Doctorate of Curriculum and Instruction and Education Leadership and Policy through the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Ph.D program.
Outside of education and when I’m not diving into coursework for my Ph.D, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Ben, and our bernadoodle, Bella. I also enjoy trying new places in Kansas City as well as traveling within and outside the United States. Other hobbies I enjoy are reading, music, exercise and spending time with friends and family.
I look forward to engaging with students, families, staff and community members to ensure our students have the best educational experience through equitable opportunities and social-emotional support to holistically develop our students for success in their next step in life.
